Products and tips to achieve a natural make up look
Natural make up is what we all need in our lives.
As much as we all love getting glammed up for a night out with the girls, it is a lot of time and effort.
We’ve all been there. The nightmare of trying to get your falsies to both stay in place, putting on so much highlight you rival a disco-ball and dropping your eyeshadow on the floor at the last minute, leaving a sea of glitter all over the floor (it’ll come out right?)
Not with this look. This look is peace and tranquility in comparison.
What is Natural Make Up?
Picture Meghan Markle on her wedding day.
Its all about enhancing your natural beauty (because you are already beautiful!) by using simple make up tricks and a few key products to help you get that natural glow.
It’s all about using a mixture of soft nudes, browns and pinks to complement the colour of your skin and even out your skin tone for the flawless “no make up” make up look.
What products do I need?
Let’s keep things really simple here. Invest in the following:
- A nude tone eyeshadow palette
- A good mascara
- A light coverage, dewy foundation
- an all-in-one bronzer / blusher / highlighter
- A nude lipstick in a shade that suits you
I’ve linked all of the above to some products that I recommend to help you achieve this look, but you can really choose anything similar to suit your needs and budget.
How do I achieve the natural make up look?
As we discussed above, a beautiful, natural make up look simply accentuates what you already have.
I love The Ordinary Serum Foundation. It is really light on your skin and feels like you don’t have any on which works perfectly for this look. It is a light coverage but gives you that glowy, dewy complexion that looks natural and clean. The price is amazing too! Use a big brush or beauty sponge to spread the foundation quickly and easily over your face, to give you a perfect base.
Remember, this is a soft look so there will be no Kim K contouring here. I love using an all-in-one bronzer / blusher / highlighter palette because a.) it saves money and b.) the colours are generally then all designed for your skin tone! See the Revolution Beauty one I have tagged above for an example. Just give a gentle sweep of the bronzer and the blusher to help give the face back a bit of colour. Press on a bit of highlighter for that extra glow.
Use a soft, neutral colour on your eyelids. Depending on your skin tone, choose a pink, brown or gold toned shadow and just sweep it over your lid. I recommended the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette above because all of the colours are SO usable and suit every skin tone. If you are looking for something cheaper just keep those shades in mind.
Give yourself a good coat of Mascara which will make your eyes “pop”. This is really all you need to accentuate your eyes for a lovely simple look!
And…*drum roll* for the finale, a nude lipstick to give you a bit of colour in your lips. You could also just go for a clear gloss or a balm if you like!
How can I add a bit of glam?
If you feel like you need a little extra something for your look, try doing one of these:
- instead of a nude lipstick, use a red or a dark brown or purple for a different look
- add some highlighter into the corner of your eyes to make them sparkle
- spend some time on your brows. Make them strong and preened and it will make all the difference!
